The Hammers booked their place in the third round by defeating Cheltenham Town 2-1 on Tuesday, while Cardiff saw off the challenge of Accrington Stanley.
Now, Sam Allardyce's men will be out to better last year's run to this stage of the competition and former Cardiff man James Collins is looking forward to the cup tie.
He said: "It's one I'll look forward to, having started my career at Cardiff. We beat them here in the first game of the season so hopefully we can go and do it again.
"The boys were brilliant against Cheltenham, and we know the fans will get behind us again as they always do."
Meanwhile, the date for the Hammers' home match with Chelsea in the Barclays Premier League has been moved forward to Saturday 23 November, with a 5.30pm kick-off.
The away fixtures at Tottenham Hotspur on 5 October and Swansea City on 26 October are likely to be moved to the Sunday due to their involvement in the UEFA Europa League.
