Pacos de Ferreira match preview

• West Ham United put the finishing touches to their pre-season preparations on Saturday when they host UEFA Champions League qualifiers Pacos de Ferreira. The Portuguese club will provide the opposition for the Hammers' only home pre-season match ahead of the big kick-off.

• Pacos de Ferreira sealed their place in the Champions League play-off round by finishing third in the Primeira Liga last term, their best ever league finish. Friday's draw paired them with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg for the two-legged tie, with the winners progressing through to the competition's group phase.

• The Hammers have enjoyed a productive pre-season to date, beating Bundesliga duo Hamburger SV and Eintracht Braunschweig in their tour of Germany, Sporting Clube de Portugal in the Torneio do Guadiana earlier this week, and AFC Bournemouth, Colchester United, Boreham Wood and Cork City closer to home. Their only defeats came at the hands of FSV Mainz and SC Braga.

• Pacos de Ferreira's league campaign gets underway on 18 August and their pre-season has included defeats to Lille (2-0), victories over FC Cesarense (4-2) and FC Penafiel (2-1), and draws with Newcastle United (1-1) and Beira-Mar (0-0)

• West Ham's Barclays Premier League season starts a week to the day after their meeting with Pacos de Ferreira, when newly-promoted Cardiff City visit east London. Click here to buy your tickets now - Academy members can pick up a ticket half price.

Team News

West Ham United

• Saturday's match could give Hammers fans a first opportunity to see new signing Razvan Rat in action at the Boleyn Ground. Fellow new arrivals Adrian and Danny Whitehead will also be available for selection, although Andy Carroll will miss out as he continues to make his way back from a heel injury. George McCartney will also be sidelined with his knee problem.

Pacos de Ferreira

• Pacos de Ferreira will be without centre back Tiago Valente, who is suffering from an abductor injury, and fellow defender Tony, as he recovers from fractured ribs. They travel to London with 19 players in their squad, including Porto midfielder Sergio Oliveira, who joined the club on loan recently.

• This will be the first meeting between the clubs in their history.

• West Ham are used to playing Portuguese opposition, however, having faced two of Pacos' domestic rivals earlier this week. The Torneio do Guadiana brought Sporting Clube de Portugal, SC Braga and the Hammers together for a three-team tournament, with a win over Sporting and a defeat to Braga securing second place for Sam Allardyce's men.

• West Ham also took on Braga in a pre-season match last summer, when Winston Reid's last minute leveller secured a 1-1 draw.

• Pacos de Ferreira recently appointed former Porto and Atletico Madrid man Costinha as manager following the departure of former boss Paulo Fonseca to Porto. Ex-Chelsea player Maniche will serve as Costinha's assistant.

• Their other meeting with English opposition this summer ended in a draw as an ill-tempered match with Newcastle United finished 1-1. Both teams were reduced to ten men in the first half following a clash between Pacos striker Rui Caetano and Newcastle's Fabrico Coloccini. Shola Ameobi's goal cancelled out Caetano's opener.
