On this day - 18 July

Mali international Modibo Maiga signed from FC Sochaux on this very day last year.

The now 25-year-old penned a four-year deal with the Club, making his Hammers bow as a substitute in the opening-day Barclays Premier League victory over Aston Villa.

Maiga would wait just a further ten days for his full-debut and a first goal to boot, as he helped his side see off Crewe Alexandra 2-0 in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

The 6'1 frontman also bagged in the third round of the League Cup, though his opener was to no avail, as Wigan Athletic prevailed in a 4-1 win at the Boleyn Ground.

An outstanding solo effort against Southampton and a tidy finish in a memorable 3-1 success against Chelsea followed, before Maiga joined up with his native Mali in South Africa for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

Maiga initially struggled upon his return to force his way back into the first-team fold, though he has since featured in all four of the Hammers' pre-season victories to date.
