Trust team up with Autism charity

West Ham United Community Sports Trust are delighted to announce a new partnership with the National Autistic Society (NAS).

This exciting relationship, spanning the 2013/14 season, will see the Trust hold autism-specific holiday courses during every half-term, as well as weekly sessions at their Beckton facility.

All programmes will be open to the whole community, with a primary focus on increasing opportunities for those with autism to take part in structured sporting activity.

Computer workshops will also form part of the sessions, though they too will have a strong emphasis on healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

Football development officer Bryan Glover is thrilled to have the NAS on board and hopes the courses can reach out to those less inclined to participate in sport.

He told whufc.com: "I'm delighted to have established this partnership, one that enables us to offer high quality sports provision to children with autism in the community.

"The great thing about this is that it will give us the opportunity to engage with children who may not get much of an opportunity to be involved in sport. My aim is to deliver regular sessions and courses throughout the season in which we hope to see a large number of participants."

First up, WHUCST are to host an NAS fun day at Beckton on Saturday 27 July, from 12-4pm. Thereafter, sessions running from 11am-1pm are scheduled for 6-7 August, as well as 13-14 August.

NAS branch officer Sean Hurley anticipates a prosperous relationship with WHUCST, with no shortage of backing from the charity's members.

He explained: "The Trust do a fantastic job in the community and we look forward to working with them in the future. All our members are very excited at the prospect of these summer courses and our fun day at Beckton later this month. We hope to see as many people there as possible."
