West Ham United 2-1 Tottenham Hotspur
7 May 2006
The Hammers recorded a final day victory over London rivals Tottenham Hotspur on this day seven years ago to consign Martin Jol's men to the UEFA Cup.
Spurs were chasing a top four finish and Champions League football for the first time, but their hopes were to be left in tatters after their defeat allowed Arsenal to leapfrog them.
Several Tottenham players were suffering with food poisoning and West Ham took advantage by moving into a 10th minute lead thanks to a 30-yard shot from Carl Fletcher.
Former Hammer Jermain Defoe turned Danny Gabbidon and fired inside the post to level at 1-1, but West Ham moved back onto the front foot after the break.
Teddy Sheringham missed a penalty for the hosts, but it was not to matter as Yossi Benayoun notched the winner 10 minutes from the end, sidestepping Michael Dawson before finding the top corner.
