Saturday's Barclays Premier League fixture against Wigan Athletic is the Club's first designated community match of the season and aims to showcase the wealth of multi-sports activities and programmes delivered by the West Ham United Community Sports Trust.
The Community Sports Trust is at the forefront of the Club's delivery of the London Olympic 2012 sporting & community legacy and in line with the Hammers' 'Moore Than A Football Club' ethos the Board are committed to equality, social inclusion and supporting the needs of our local community.
Local MPs Stephen Timms, Lyn Brown and Jim Fitzpatrick will all be in attendance of the game.
In addition, we'll see over 70 Junior Hammers take to the pitch at half time for their graduation ceremony, where both Hammerhead and Bubbles will be on hand to dish out their certificates.
There will also be a bucket collection throughout the stadium concourses before kick off and during half time to raise funds for the Community Sports Trust. You can also support the Trust's work across east London and Essex by texting WHUE13 £1 to 70070.
During the 2012/13 campaign, the Trust's Premier League-funded Trainee & Mentoring Scheme has interacted with 15,000 youngsters via its programmes and outreach public events in the most socially deprived areas.
WHUi (Skills Learning Zone) have provided out of school study support for around 6,000 underachieving children from Newham with numbers increasing every year. Last year alone we worked with 1,231 primary school pupils, 209 secondary school pupils and 119 adult learners.
Joint-Chairman David Gold is delighted to see the club reach out and involve so many young people throughout the local area. He said: "The sport they're playing really doesn't matter as long as they are participating, that's the key. The club is playing a very important part in embracing and inspiring young people and that's great to see."
This weekend will also see the Hammers launch an all-new community microsite dedicated to the work and activities run by West Ham United's Community Sports Trust throughout the local area.
