Joey Beauchamp had a blink and you'll miss it Hammers career, spending only 58 days at the Boleyn Ground between a £1.2million move from hometown club Oxford United and a £800,000 sale to Swindon Town.

The left-sided midfielder came through the ranks at Oxford United and made 124 League appearances before moving on to the Hammers in 1994.

However, he was to leave east London without making a competitive appearance for West Ham, moving closer to home at Swindon with defender Adrian Whitbread travelling in the other direction.

He returned to Oxford after a season and spent the rest of his pro career with the U's, playing a further 238 League games for the club, scoring 63 goals in total.

Classic match

Chelsea 0-1 West Ham United
Premier League
13 March 1999

West Ham United enjoyed success against this weekend's opponents on this day 14 years ago.

The Hammers were in the midst of their best campaign in the Premier League era and continued their surge towards the top five with this 1-0 success in West London.

Paul Kitson scored the only goal of the game, forcing home late on to dent the title ambitions of Gianluca Vialli's men.

West Ham showed good character to bounce back from the previous week's defeat to Southampton, with Rio Ferdinand blocking well from Gianfranco Zola and Celestine Babayaro.

But the Hammers were to largely frustrate their London rivals before Kitson struck (pictured) following a Marc-Vivien Foe knockdown to secure all three points.

West Ham ended the campaign in fifth place with 57 points from 38 games, while Chelsea ended in third, four points off title-winning Manchester United.
