Reid ready for Swans test

Winston Reid is looking to help get West Ham United back to winning ways and hopes that the Hammers can maintain their fine home form against Swansea City on Saturday.

The No2 says everyone is positive and determined to get a positive result against the Swans at the Boleyn Ground but expects a tough challenge.

Reid is also determined to avenge the 3-0 defeat suffered in the reverse fixture at the Liberty Stadium back in August.

"No match is easy or straightforward in this league," he confirmed. "We lost out to Swansea at their ground in what was our second match earlier this season and so want to try and reverse that result at home if we can.

"But we know what they can do as a team and we just have to make sure we are on top of our game and if we are, then we know we can win. It will be a hard game, but one we are looking forward to.

"As a team we are creating chances and we know we have to make the most of them and then equally be strong at the other end. We want to make sure we can finish as high as we can this season and make our strong start to the season count."

There will be a Danish link between the two teams at Saturday's game.

The defender had left his native New Zealand with his family at the age of eleven to go and live in Denmark. He played at youth level for the Danes, but then decided to go back to his roots and play for New Zealand at senior level.

Yet Reid has strong links still with his adopted country and will see a Dane in the shape of Swansea manager Michael Laudrup, who was an outstanding attacking midfielder and voted Denmark's best-ever player.

Reid is well aware of Laudrup's presence in football over the years, although was just a bit too young to see and know him on the international scene.

"Yes, Michael Laudrup was a great player for Denmark over the years. He was probably coming towards the end of his career, especially nationally, when I was coming through.

"But of course I know what a great player he has been and now he is proving himself as a manager. I am sure he will be as committed a manager as he was as a player."
