West Ham United can confirm that midfielder Alou Diarra has joined French Ligue 1 club Stade Rennais on loan for the remainder of the 2012/13 campaign.

The 31-year-old linked up with the Hammers in the summer of 2012 for an undisclosed fee from Olympique Marseille, but has only made one start for them in the Barclays Premier League this season, after picking up a thigh injury in training in September.

Diarra, who has 44 caps for France to his name, has spent most of his career in his homeland, with a spell at Bordeaux between 2007-11 proving to be his most fruitful.

Rennes will become the sixth top flight French side Diarra has figured for, following stints at Le Havre, Bastia, Lens, Lyon, Bordeaux and Marseille.
