The introduction of Rob Hall served as the catalyst for Birmingham City to recover from a two-goal deficit to grab a 2-2 npower Championship draw with Crystal Palace.
The West Ham United loanee was sent on as a 56th-minute substitute by Blues manager Lee Clark with Birmingham trailing 1-0 at St Andrews. The Eagles looked set for a victory that would have taken them top of the table when Glenn Murray netted his second of the game four minutes later.
However, Nikola Zigic - so often the scourge of West Ham in recent seasons - reduced the deficit before Hall's 88th-minute corner was headed in by former Hammers midfielder Papa Bouba Diop to snatch an unlikely share of the spoils.
Hall's fellow loanee Ravel Morrison was an unused substitute for Birmingham, while Danny Gabbidon made his Crystal Palace debut as a second-half substitute for Ian Holloway's side.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Stephen Henderson endured a less successful afternoon as Ipswich Town were beaten 2-0 at Leeds United, ending the Tractor Boys' run of three straight league victories. Ex-Hammer Nigel Reo-Coker was an unused substitute for Ipswich.
In npower League One, defender Dan Potts started but was withdrawn at half-time in Colchester United's 1-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth. Two other former West Ham players were involved - Freddie Sears up front for Colchester and David James in goal for Bournemouth.
In npower League Two, Blair Turgott was an unused substitute as Capital One Cup giant-killers Bradford City were held to a 2-2 draw at Southend United. Former Hammer Freddy Eastwood appeared as a late substitute for the Shrimpers.
Paul McCallum missed out on AFC Wimbledon's 1-0 home defeat by Rotherham United as he completed a three-match ban. The striker was sent-off on his Dons debut at Morecambe on 24 November.
*West Ham United have been drawn at home to either Cheltenham Town or Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Youth Cup fourth round.
