Dev Squad call up Academy scholars

Ian Hendon is set to give some of West Ham United's promising Academy players opportunities to shine in Friday's Barclays U21 Premier League meeting with Blackburn Rovers at Rush Green.

The Hammers have already sewn up the Group 1 title, so with the likes of Rob Hall, Paul McCallum and Blair Turgott out on loan at npower Football League clubs, Hendon will call upon the next generation to supplement his Development Squad.

Hendon, who will also be without injured defenders Eoin Wearen and Leo Chambers, has called up first-year profesional Elliot Lee and scholars Frazer Shaw, Sam Baxter, Kieran Sadlier and Ben Marlow. They will be joined in the starting XI by Dan Potts and Declan Hunt, who do not have a fixture with respective loan clubs Colchester United and Braintree Town this weekend and are allowed to play under the terms of their Youth Loans.

Lee and Sadlier have been in fine goalscoring form for the Under-18s, while goalkeeper Baxter, left-back Shaw and midfielder Marlow will all be eager to impress at this level.

Development Squad regulars Callum Driver, Pelly Ruddock, Kenzer Lee and Jack Powell are also expected to feature, but Matthias Fanimo, George Moncur and Sebastian Lletget are again likely to be involved in the first-team squad for Saturday's Barclays Premier League visit of Chelsea.

Speaking ahead of Friday's 7pm kick-off at Rush Green, Hendon also praised his backroom staff for their hard work in turning the Hammers' second-string into title winners.

"It's a team effort. It's not all about me and the players. I want to thank everyone who has played a part in our success - physiotherapist Tom Smith, sports scientist Greg De Carnys, strength and conditioning coach Dan Bernadin, GPS co-ordinator Adam Crossley, goalkeeper coach Jerome John, performance analyst Charlie Radmore and our kit man Jamo Saban - and long may it continue!"

Admission at Rush Green on Friday is £3 for Adults and £1 for Under-16s, while Season Ticket Holders will be admitted free of charge. If you cannot make it to the game in person, the club's official twitter account @whufc_official will have live updates from Rush Green.

After Friday's fixture, the Development Squad will complete their pre-Christmas fixture list with a trip to Norwich City on Monday 17 December.
