West Ham United Ladies showed Sam Allardyce's first team exactly what they need to do on Sunday by defeating Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 in the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division.

Julia Setford's side closed the gap on leaders Reading to five points with a convincing display at Ship Lane. April Bowers put the Hammers a goal up in the first half before an own-goal from former West Ham player Sam Pittuck doubled the hosts' advantage five minutes from full-time.

New signing Anelle Massey, who arrived from Gillingham earlier this month, climbed off the substitutes' bench to complete the scoring in added time. For Setford, there was also the welcome sight of two new arrivals from Colchester, forward Hannah Gowland and midfielder Lily Mellors, making their own debuts as substitutes.

West Ham are now fourth in the Southern Division, five points behind the leaders but with a game in-hand. The Ladies have three league matches to play before Christmas, with trips to third-place Brighton and Hove Albion and Reading bisected by a home game with bottom-of-the-table Queens Park Rangers.
