Newcastle 0 West Ham United 1 FT

Final score - Newcastle United 0-1 West Ham United

96 mins - The full-time whistle is blown! West Ham have won on Tyneside for the first time since 31 October 1998! A typical strike from former Newcastle captain Kevin Nolan is the match-winner, but every player in claret and blue was a hero out there. Jussi Jaaskelainen made save after save and the defenders in front of him threw themselves in front of every cross and shot. The midfield worked their socks off and Andy Carroll led the line with typical energy and strength. West Ham are up to sixth in the table! Join us again a week on Monday when we host Stoke City. There are still a few hundred tickets left for that game. Get yours now here.

95 mins - Into the final minute as Reid concedes a corner. It's taken short to Ben Arfa, who collects the return pass and beats Diame. He stands the cross up and it's cleared to Cabaye on the edge of the box. The France midfielder volleys over. Krul was up for that corner!

93 mins - Carroll is the coolest man inside the stadium as he chests down Obertan's cross inside his own box for Jaaskelainen to collect. Good defending.

93 mins - Diame and Noble lead a counter after Reid's clearing header and win a free-kick and then a throw inside Newcastle territory.

91 mins - We're into five minutes of added time.

90 mins - Diame wins the ball from Obertan but loses his balance. Ameobi collects and shoots low with his left foot from 25 yards. Jaaskelainen is there to make the save low down.

89 mins - Another right-wing cross is headed clear by Williamson. Nolan and Maiga try to keep the pressure on, but the latter concedes a goal kick.

87 mins - West Ham attack down their right. Maiga rises to head O'Neil's cross, but it's off-target and Krul catches.

86 mins - Carroll wins a header on his own box and is fouled. He needs a bit of time to get to his feet, but the physio is not required.

84 mins - Noble lifts the ball in and the presence of Carroll forces Taylor to head behind for a corner. Noble lifts it in and Carroll wins it. The ball hits Nolan and then a defender before Krul hacks clear.

83 mins - Ben Arfa streaks past Demel but his cross is wayward and flies out for a goal kick beyond Jaaskelainen's far post. The long clearance sees Carroll win a free-kick from Taylor.

81 mins - West Ham survive again as Ameobi gets to the byline and crosses. His first effort is blocked and his second finds Ben Arfa at the far post. The No10's touch is a bit loose and O'Neil nips in to volley the bouncing ball clear.

81 mins - Santon has come to right-back, with Ferguson on the left of the back four. Ben Arfa is now on the left wing.

79 mins - Newcastle replace right-back Simpson with winger Gabriel Obertan. A positive move from Alan Pardew, who we can hear shouting his instructions from the technical area.

78 mins - Carroll attacks Noble's cross but the ball flies away to the far side. Nolan sprints to collect ahead of Anita before finding O'Neil, but the No32 can't control and concedes a throw. O'Neil has been impressive since he came on, otherwise.

77 mins - O'Neil gets into space down the right touchline and crosses. The ball takes a deflection and Taylor heads behind for a corner. Roars from the West Ham fans.

76 mins - Demel gets to a bouncing ball first and is fouled by Ben Arfa. The midfielder catches him and is booked.

75 mins - Ameobi creates a crossing chance for Ben Arfa but Noble gets back to get a foot in. Maiga then sells his defender short with a pass, but when the ball loops wide for Ben Arfa, the No10 is offside.

72 mins - Newcastle play the ball back from the throw and almost pay the price as Carroll wins it back and Nolan collects. The skipper waits until exactly the right moment to play in Carroll, who is in on goal. He shoots first-time and Krul is out quickly to smother the effort. So close to his first goal.

71 mins - Jaaskelainen is there again to make a flying save from another Ben Arfa effort at his near post. Maiga hacks out for a throw.

70 mins - Ferguson gets in behind Demel and crosses low, but Reid is there to clear. Nolan leads the counter-attack and Carroll holds the ball up before Maiga and O'Neil are involved, but it comes to nothing.

69 mins - Demel's first involvement is to head the ball behind for a corner. Cabaye lofts it over and Ameobi gets his head to it, but his effort flies wide from 12 yards.

66 mins - McCartney appears to have hurt himself - it is his left leg. The left-back is replaced by Guy Demel. O'Brien comes to left-back. Demel goes to his usual position at right-back. That's all three subs used by Big Sam. The eleven on the pitch now will have to play out the final 25 minutes or so.

64 mins - Jaaskelainen is earning his money today! First, he dives left to push Ameobi's shot around the post for a corner. Ben Arfa then tries to curl the flag-kick into the goal directly, but the Finn is alert and palms the ball over the top. The third corner is cleared by Maiga before Diame wins a throw on halfway.

63 mins - Good hold-up play from Ameobi before he finds Ben Arfa wide on the right. The No10 runs at McCartney, goes round the outside and gets his cross in, but it eludes everyone.

61 mins - O'Brien is booked for a foul wide on the left. The free-kick comes over and the Hammers somehow survive again.

60 mins - Big Sam is left frustrated as O'Neil starts another promising attack. Maiga, Noble, O'Brien and Carroll are all involved before Maiga runs the ball too far and the goalkeeper is there again.

59 mins - Diame again, striding through the midfield before Maiga and Carroll combine to win a throw. The cross comes in again and O'Neil's header is straight at Krul at the near post.

58 mins - The corner is too deep but Anita keeps it in on the near side. Diame tracks him and does well to win a throw from the No8.

57 mins - The away fans are giving us a rendition of 'Twist and Shout' high up in the stand to my left. Tomkins heads the ball slightly the wrong way from a long ball forward and Ameobi forces O'Brien to concede a corner.

55 mins - Reid is down and needs the physio on. It looks like his ankle. However, just as the stretcher team approach the pitch, Reid springs to his feet and walks to the touchline. Within 30 seconds, he is back on. Collins was warming up, just in case.

53 mins - Diame does superbly to swarm all over Anita and win the ball inside the Newcastle half. He runs at Williamson but the centre-back does well to block the initial effort. Diame is on the ground but manages to get a second shot away, but he scoops it high and wide. Great running from the Senegal man.

52 mins - Benayoun is replaced by Gary O'Neil, but not before Ameobi has dragged his shot from 25 yards wide of the right-hand post. Big Sam has made the change, which I believe is a tactical one.

50 mins - West Ham win a free-kick just inside the Magpies half. Noble lifts it in and Carroll challenges, but the ball clears him and scoots into the arms of Krul. The home side try to counter, but Nolan tracks the run and blocks his pass out for a throw. The Toon aren't finished, though, and Cabaye tests Jaaskelainen with a low shot from distance, but the goalkeeper is again able to get his body behind the ball and collect.

49 mins - Newcastle come again and win another corner down their left. The ball comes over deep and is volleyed wide amid a group of bodies. I'm sorry but I didn't see who got their boot to the ball but it is a goal kick.

47 mins - O'Brien heads the ball into the air from the second cross and Ba heads the ball down powerfully towards the corner. Jaaskelainen dives full-length to his right to somehow keep the ball out and divert it around the post. Amazing save! Eyes turn to the assistant again, but the Finn wags his finger as if to say 'That didn't cross the line'. The corner is cleared.

46 mins - Shola Ameobi is on for Cisse at half-time. Newcastle get the game re-started and immediately go on the attack. A cross from Ferguson is headed away by Tomkins.

Half-time score - Newcastle United 0-1 West Ham United

West Ham United started well and arguably deserved their lead, but Newcastle piled on the pressure as the half came to a close. Only a couple of saves and some last-ditch defending kept Alan Pardew's side at bay. Big Sam will be pleased with the score, but he knows his team cannot defend a one-goal lead for the entire second half. They will need to keep the ball better than they did in the closing stages. Saying that, a lead is a lead and West Ham will be confident of keeping their noses in front.

49 mins - Maiga goes on a pressure-lifting run down the left wing and gets all the way to the byline before pulling the ball back for McCartney. He crosses to the far post, where Santon gets above Benayoun to head clear. Seconds later, the half-time whistle is blown.

47 mins - Ben Arfa takes on Nolan and shootrs right-footed. The ball flicks off McCartney and then Reid and hits the side-netting. Some fans think it's gone in! Corner. West Ham struggle to clear and Carroll misses his kick inside the box. A shot comes in immediately but Jaaskelainen is equal to it. West Ham survive again, but they are wobbling.

46 mins - We're going to have FOUR minutes of added time. As it begins, Diame comes within an interception on halfway of sending Benayoun clear and in on goal. So close.

45 mins - Newcastle are attacking relentlessly. Ben Arfa runs at the midfield and is brought down by Noble. Yellow card for the No16, who cannot believe the decision.

44 mins - West Ham need half-time. This time Cabaye lifts a straight ball into the box for Cisse, but he misses his header. Jaaskelainen keeps his eye on the ball and collects.

42 mins - Newcastle win a corner. Taylor's header is wayward but the ball is worked back into the box, where Ferguson slams a shot that hits Tomkins and flies wide for another corner. This time, Williamson wins the header and it's on target, but Jaaskelainen is there again to make the save low down. He doesn't need to use his legs this time!

41 mins - So close to a second for West Ham and a second for Nolan. Diame drives forward through the midfield before picking out Nolan with a strong low pass. The captain controls well and then stabs a shot from 20 yards that eludes Krul but shaves the left-hand post.

38 mins - GOAL! They are making even more noise now! McCartney takes a throw to Noble, whose cross comes in from the left and is cleared by Santon into the path of O'Brien on the right edge of the box. He shoots first-time but it's going wide until Nolan adjusts and diverts the ball into the net from close-range. All eyes on the assistant referee, but the flag stays down and the goal stands! A muted celebration, if any, from the former Newcastle captain.

38 mins - There are 2,700 Hammers here today and they are making plenty of noise high up to my left. The total attendance is 51,855.

34 mins - I'm not sure what's wrong with Jarvis, but he is coming off. Maiga is on in his place on the left of the front three.

34 mins - O'Brien gets a talking-to from the referee as he slides into a challenge in midfield. He makes no contact, but it's a free-kick as the home player had to hurdle to avoid the Irishman.

32 mins - Newcastle build well through the middle of their midfield, but when Ben Arfa tries to slide a pass through for Simpson, Jaaskelainen is aware and rushes out to catch on the slide.,

29 mins - Diame's loose touch sets up a Newcastle attack. A cross from Cisse finds Cabaye via deflection, but his volley is mis-kicked and West Ham scramble the ball away as far as Ferguson. He crosses and Reid is there to thunder a header away for a throw. West Ham eventually clear.

27 mins - Jarvis tries to get in behind Simpson, but the right-back is strong and holds off the No7 before sliding and preventing a corner.

25 mins - Cripes! A decent piece of interplay involving Anita and Ba ends with Cabaye being urged to shoot by the home fans. He does, from 25 yards. Jaaskelainen catches, but the ball nearly squirms under his body. Thankfully, his legs do enough to keep the ball out.

24 mins - Anita is on for Jonas. The corner is taken short, then Cabaye's low cross is cleared by Nolan for a throw.

23 mins - Newcastle have a corner as Santon's cross hits O'Brien and goes behind. Pardew wants to make a change as Jonas is still feeling the effects of that earlier challenge with Benayoun. The home skipper is currently sitting on the turf inside the Newcastle half and has the physio on again.

21 mins - Noble lifts the free-kick in and it's headed out as far as Benayoun on the right corner of the box. He shoots first-time, but slices his shot. It screws a long way wide of the right-hand post and thuds into the advertising board. O'Brien is back on.

20 mins - Noble is fouled about 35 yards out. He'll take the kick himself. O'Brien has to have some treatment for a split lip, meanwhile.

18 mins - Cisse is one-on-one with Reid and has enough to outpace the Kiwi. He shoots first-time left-footed from about 25 yards but it's miles off target. Goal kick.

17 mins - Carroll flicks on Tomkins' pass and Nolan runs into the channel to collect. He then plays a neat inside ball for O'Brien to overlap and cross. Taylor dives to head powerfully out for a throw. Unfortunately, it comes to nothing other than a goal kick for the Magpies.

15 mins - Good again from West Ham. Diame and Noble combine before the latter sprays the ball wide right for O'Brien. He cuts inside Santon on to his right foot and crosses, but it bounces beyond Carroll and Jarvis and out for a goal kick.

13 mins - Patient build-up involving Noble and O'Brien down the right sees the pair exchange passes a couple of times before Diame finds Noble. His cross flicks off the head of Nolan before being cleared to the edge of the box. O'Brien charges down the second clearance but the ball flies across the box and out for a throw on the far side.

10 mins - Both physios are on after a collision between Jonas and Benayoun. Jonas looks to have come off worse, but neither is walking particularly freely.

9 mins - West Ham attack through Noble and work the ball to the edge of the Newcastle box. Diame has supported the attack and tries to work a yard to shoot, but he is under pressure and cannot get any purchase on his shot. Krul collects.

8 mins - Noble lifts the ball right for Reid, who heads square. Nolan hits the overhead kick, but it hits a defender and flies wide for a corner. Nose from the away end. The ball is headed powerfully clear and Newcastle can break at speed. Ben Arfa streaks away with Ba for company. McCartney tries to take out the Frenchman, but he is not quick enough! Ben Arfa passes right for Ba, but it's too strong. The striker collects inside the penalty area and crosses, but Diame has got back in time to clear.

7 mins - Nolan is back on, wearing odd boots! O'Brien wins a free-kick on halfway. Tomkins to deliver. The ball is headed clear but Reid is then fouled on the edge of the centre circle.

5 mins - Jonas finds Ba in midfield and he turns and has space to run into. Santon collects on the overlap and crosses, but Tomkins is there to stab the ball away from danger. Meanwhile, Nolan's boot has fallen apart and he has to come off the pitch and get a new pair! West Ham down to ten for now.

4 mins - Oooh! Heart in mouth time for the Hammers as Reid's backpass puts Jaaskelainen under pressure. Cisse closes the goalkeeper down, who knocks the ball sideways and is fouled by the striker.

3 mins - Half a chance for Jarvis as the ball bounces into his path on the left edge of the penalty area. He elects to shoot first-time, but slices his half-volley badly and the ball flies high and wide of the near post.

2 mins - Carroll gets involved again, sliding in on Jonas. He fouls the Magpies captain before giving a rueful smile and thumbs-up to his former team-mate.

3.02pm - The Hammers get the game going and the ball is pumped up for Carroll from the left-back area. He wins it and Santon is there to head back to Krul. He nearly wrong-foots the goalkeeper, but the Dutchman recovers and makes the catch.

3.01pm - After a perfectly-observed minute's silence, we're nearly ready for kick-off. West Ham will get things underway...

Minute's silence v Newcastle United

2.54pm - The Blaydon Races is blaring out over the PA system. What a tune it is! It won't be long until we're hearing Working Class Hero again and the teams will be walking out of the tunnel in front of me. For now, two man-size Magpie mascots are keeping us entertained with some nifty dance moves, as you can see on the club's official twitter site here.

2.47pm - Andy Carroll gets a round of applause as he leaves the pitch and heads to the dressing room. The No8 responds with a quick clap of his own for the home fans.

2.40pm - With today being Remembrance Sunday, we shall of course be observing a minute's silence before kick-off. At present, we are being entertained by a local drum corps of RAF cadets, who are playing a selection of Newcastle-related tunes. We've had 'Working Class Hero' and 'The Blaydon Races' so far.

2.30pm - We have got an exclusive gallery of photos from St James' Park, which will be continually updated throughout the afternoon, on the club's official Facebook page here. The two squads are now out warming up on the turf here on Tyneside. It has clouded over, weather-wise. The sun was shining an hour or two back, but there is definitely now a growing chill in the air!

2.05pm - The teams have been announced. West Ham make one change, with James Collins dropping to the bench and James Tomkins coming in to replace him. Newcastle are without suspended pair Fabricio Coloccini and Cheick Tiote. Mike Williamson replaces Coloccini at the back, with Jonas Gutierrez taking the captain's armband.

Newcastle United: Krul, Simpson, Williamson, Taylor, Santon, Ferguson, Cabaye, Ben Arfa, Jonas, Cisse, Ba
Subs: Elliott, Anita, Amalfitano, Bigirimana, Marveaux, Obertan, Shola Ameobi

West Ham United: Jaaskelainen, O'Brien, Reid, Tomkins, McCartney, Noble, Diame, Nolan, Benayoun, Jarvis, Carroll
Subs: Spiegel, Demel, Collins, O'Neil, Hall, Maiga, Cole

1.45pm - The squad have safely arrived at St James' Park and are in good spirits ahead of this afternoon's game. Guy Demel, James Collins and James Tomkins have all travelled and will hope to be involved. The team news will be confirmed at 2pm and announced first on the club's twitter feed.

Good afternoon and welcome to St James' Park for today's Barclays Premier League fixture.

West Ham United travel to Newcastle United seeking their second away Barclays Premier League victory of the season and looking to build on last weekend's fine goalless home draw with champions Manchester City. The Hammers start the weekend in ninth place, having collected 15 points from their opening ten league fixtures.

Newcastle start the weekend one point and one place below the Hammers in tenth. The Magpies picked up a creditable 1-1 draw at Liverpool in their most-recent Barclays Premier League outing at Anfield last Sunday. Newcastle were also in action on Thursday evening, when they came from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Belgian side Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa League group stage.

West Ham will hope to welcome back Guy Demel from a thigh injury, while James Tomkins and James Collins are both hoping to be fit. Newcastle will be without suspended captain Fabricio Coloccini and midfielder Cheick Tiote. The team news will be confirmed at 2pm and published first on the club's official twitter feed.

The Hammers have picked up four points from four matches on the road so far this term, winning at Queens Park Rangers (2-1), drawing at Norwich City (0-0) and losing at Swansea City (0-3) and Wigan Athletic (1-2). Newcastle have won three of their five home league matches so far, as well as scoring victories over Atromitos, Bordeaux and Club Brugge in the UEFA Europa League at St James' Park.

Both managers will be facing their former clubs on Sunday. West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce took charge of Newcastle United between May 2007 and December 2008, Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was in charge at West Ham United between 2003 and 2006 - the tenth manager in the club's history. Pardew led the Hammers to promotion to the Premier League via the Play-Offs in 2005 and the 2006 FA Cup final.

Hammers pair Kevin Nolan and Andy Carroll will also be returning to St James' Park after successful spells with the Magpies. Nolan captained the club to promotion from the Championship in 2009/10, with local hero Carroll leading the charge by scoring 17 goals. Sunday's game will also see West Ham United come up against former striker Demba Ba, who became a cult figure at the Boleyn Gruond by scoring seven goals in 13 appearances between January and May 2011.

Andy Carroll scored his first Newcastle goal on his first competitive start for the club at St James' Park on 10 January 2009. Carroll scored the final goal in a thrilling 2-2 draw. Earlier, former Magpies striker Craig Bellamy cancelled out Michael Owen's opening goal before Carlton Cole put the Hammers in front ten minutes after the break. The home side earned a point when Carroll headed in Damien Duff's cross with 12 minutes to play.

Sunday's game will be the 122nd meeting between the two clubs. Newcastle have recorded 49 victories, West Ham 37 wins and there have been 35 draws.

Newcastle are unbeaten in their last nine home league matches against West Ham. The Hammers' most-recent victory at St James' Park came on 31 October 1998, when Ian Wright scored twice and Trevor Sinclair once in a 3-0 Premier League success.

West Ham and Newcastle have met twice previously on 11 November. The two clubs drew 0-0 in Division Two at the Boleyn Ground in 1989, while the Magpies scored a 1-0 Division One victory at St James' Park in 1967.
