The 2012/13 FA Cup with Budweiser reaches the first round proper stage this weekend, with plenty of former West Ham United players hoping to take the next step down the road to Wembley.

One of the biggest first-round ties is taking place at the Melbourne Stadium, where Blue Square Bet South club Chelmsford City are hosting npower League One side and Essex rivals Colchester United.

Both clubs have an ex-Hammer in their ranks, with winger Ishmael Welsh lining up for the Clarets and striker Freddie Sears in the U's squad. Welsh, 25, came through the Academy but did not make a first-team appearance before being released and joining Yeovil Town in 2006, while 22-year-old Sears made 58 first-team appearances before joining Colchester on a permanent basis in summer 2012.

Elsewhere, Luis Boa Morte recently joined League One side Chesterfield, who host Hartlepool United. The Portuguese winger was a used substitute when West Ham won 2-0 Hartlepool in in the FA Cup fifth round in January 2009.

Goalkeeper Marek Stech could be in for a busy afternoon when his Yeovil Town side travel to League One rivals Preston North End, while centre-back Bondz N'Gala will be hoping Stevenage can win at League Two outfit Rotherham United.

Of the ex-Hammers also plying their trade in League One, Cristian Montano's Oldham Athletic head to Blue Square Bet Premier side Kidderminster Harriers, while Gary Alexander's Crawley Town will be looking to avoid the long arm of the law when they travel to Ryman League Premier League side Met Police.

One-time West Ham loanee Jon Harley's Portsmouth are at home to Notts County, while Luke Chadwick's MK Dons head for Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division side Cambridge City. David James' AFC Bournemouth will play host to Darren Currie's Dagenham and Redbridge and Paolo Di Canio's Swindon Town host Macclesfield Town.

League Two side Barnet is home to no fewer than five Academy graduates in Jordan Brown, Olly Lee, Ahmed Abdulla, Anthony Edgar and Sam Cowler. The Bees, joint-managed by Mark Robson, host League Two rivals Oxford United. Edgar made his sole first-team appearance for the Hammers in an FA Cup third-round defeat by Arsenal in January 2010.

Three Academy graduates could be on the pitch where Joe Widdowson's Northampton Town are at home to Zavon Hines and Kyel Reid's Bradford City.

Freddy Eastwood's Southend United host Stockport County, Callum McNaughton's AFC Wimbledon travel to Blue Square Bet Premier side York City, Josh Payne's Aldershot travel to Hendon, while manager Martin Allen's high-flying Gillingham host Scunthorpe United.

Blue Square Bet North side Bishops Stortford could field former Hammers scholar Jack Lampe against Hastings United, while Moses Ashikodi could feature for Ebbsfleet United at Carlisle United.

Finally, Alan Devonshire's Braintree Town of the Blue Square Bet Premier will hope to cause an upset when they host League One challengers Tranmere Rovers in a tie that will be screened live on ITV1 on Sunday 4 November at 12.30pm.
