Burnley 1-3 West Ham United
FA Cup third round
27 January 1968
Bad weather delayed the FA Cup third round until late January 1968, with West Ham United kicking-off their challenge to raise the trophy for the second time with a trip to Turf Moor to take on Division One rivals Burnley.
Ron Greenwood's Hammers went into the game sitting 16th in the Division One table, while Burnley were also sitting in a mid-table position. Thankfully, West Ham raised their collective game to run out 3-1 winners thanks to two goals from FIFA World Cup winner Martin Peters (pictured) and one from striker Brian Dear. West Ham would go on to reach the fifth round, winning 3-0 at Stoke City in the fourth round before going down to a 2-1 defeat by Sheffield United at the Boleyn Ground.
Anniversary
Lucas Neill
Born: 9 March 1978, Sydney, Australia
Australia captain Lucas Neill joined West Ham United from Blackburn Rovers in January 2007 as manager Alan Curbishley set about rebuilding his squad in a bid to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The right-back made his Hammers debut in a 1-0 FA Cup fourth-round defeat by Watford at the Boleyn Ground on 27 January 2007. While his first game in claret and blue may have been unsuccessful, Neill went on to play an influential role as West Ham won seven of their final nine league matches to avoid relegation. Neill remained at the Boleyn Ground for two-and-a-half years in total, scoring one goal in 88 appearances in all competitions.
After spells with Everton and Turkish club Galatasaray, Neill moved to Abu Dhabi-based Al Jazira in August 2011. At international level, he has made nearly 80 appearances for Australia, appearing at two FIFA World Cup finals, the Olympic Games, AFC Asian Cup and FIFA Confederations Cup.
